GreenPath: Financial Wellness

Free Financial Counseling

From time to time, life gets tough, real tough. Sometimes there’s nothing that we could’ve done differently. We’re faced with these troubles simply because “Life” happened. At other times, we need to take a hard look at ourselves and the way we’ve been using our resources. Whatever your story, we are always happy to help.

Still, we understand that these conversations can be kind of awkward at times, and maybe you just want to be anonymous for a while. For those times, Filer has teamed up with GreenPath, a financial education and counseling program with over 50 years in the business. Through our partnership with GreenPath, you will enjoy unlimited access to financial counselors without paying anything – it’s just another benefit of membership with Filer Credit Union.

Some of the many things GreenPath helps our members with include:

  • Getting out of debt
    • If you have high interest credit card debt, a GreenPath Debt Management Plan may be able to help you lower your interest rates and pay off debt faster.
  • Saving money
    • Looking to build savings? GreenPath can work with you to make a plan to work toward your goals together
  • Building credit
    • Learn how to better understand your credit report, dispute inaccurate information, and manage your credit score.
  • Planning for the future
    • GreenPath’s housing experts provide support during the home buying process or when you’re struggling with rent or mortgage payments.

Call 877-337-3399 for free financial counseling, or call Filer Credit Union at 1-800-595-6630, and we’ll help point you in the right direction.

Help Creating a Budget

BudSmartLogoBudgetSmart is another program available through GreenPath. This easy-to-use software tool uses simple graphics, “pop-up” boxes and bar charts to help you manage your money more effectively. You can use the program to:

  • Establish a budget
  • Track spending
  • View tips for improving areas of overspending or inadequate saving
  • Experiment with “what if” scenarios to determine how a major purchase or change in income would impact your budget

To access the software, go to the BudgetSmart page and click the yellow “Download Now” button on the right hand of your screen.

Trouble With Checking?

CheckrightGreenPath also offers CheckRight, which is a web-based checking account management education course that teaches the basics of how to manage a checking account. The whole course is a self-study, self-paced program, so there really is no pressure. It even has tests. Remember how fun tests are? They help you retain the knowledge you learn! Don’t worry though, no one is grading you this time.

How much does a GreenPath counseling session cost?

Credit counseling is free. GreenPath will work with you to help you understand your unique financial situation and explore customized options to help you reach your financial goals. You can call GreenPath at 1-877-337-3399 to get immediate counseling.

How long does a credit counseling session with GreenPath take?

The initial credit counseling session usually lasts 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Do I need to make an appointment with GreenPath?

Review Your Credit Report

There is a free way to do this, and a not-so free way. The free way is the one we prefer, and here is the link: If you need help reviewing your report, call one of our loan officers.

Need a break? Use this coupon to skip one loan payment per year. You’ll still have to pay it back at the end of the loan, but this can be really helpful for the hard times, which we ALL have experienced. See coupon for full details and call a loan officer if you have any questions.

Coupons need to be signed by all borrowers and co-borrowers and turned in at one of the credit union’s branches. This feature is also available from the mobile app or within online banking.

Consolidation Loans

Then again, maybe your situation just needs a little kick-start. Maybe you have 5 loans that you’re paying on, and it’s just getting ridiculous. Well, we can help with that too. We offer consolidation loans to help you simplify your bills and save some extra income. Click below or call 1-800-595-6630 to find out more about our Consolidation Loans.
